St. Michael Orthodox on Hikes lane is one of the most recognizable churches in Louisville. Built in the early 1970’s it is the only Byzantine structure in the state of Kentucky. The unique dome structure protects the house of worship and welcomed many immigrants from Eastern Europe after the fall of Communism in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  Inside is a gold-plated chandelier with over 250 lights and the interior of the church is frescoed in Byzantine icons. St. Michael is the host of the very popular Greek Festival that so many in the community attend every year.

In 2023 the roof around the dome and over Parish Hall had reached the end of its serviceable life and a replacement was due. With over 75 years of complex roofing experience Geoghegan Commercial Roofing was selected to replace the roof around the dome of St. Michael. Geoghegan took the extra care it uses on all its projects to ensure the structure was water tight at the end of each work day so the precious interior was always protected from the elements. The project included a complete reroof of the church, Parish Hall, and a covered exterior walkway. It also included some special copper flashing work on the dome itself.
